Determining the business rules, data lineage, transformation logic and hidden sensitive data in any data management project has traditionally been more of an art than a science. The intense manual effort required combined with a lack of tools and methodology makes it difficult to accurately estimate project delivery, resulting in long and risky project schedules. Exeros Discovery is the first software platform to address this issue.
The Discovery Engine is the component of Exeros Discovery that automatically discovers maps and complex transformations between two datasets. Discovery Engines automate the data mapping process by looking at the actual data values to determine the content of the data and the relationships within and between the data sets. Once the data analyst specifies the data tables or files that Discovery needs to analyze, the Discovery Engine automatically:
- Organizes tables into related groups based on primary and foreign key relationships
- Discovers and generates business rules, transformations and hidden sensitive data
- Finds binding condition between a data source and target
- identifies direct data mappings from source column to target column
- Generates transformations from source column(s) to target column
- Creates cross-reference tables
- Creates metadata reports in HTML or Excel
- Outputs SQL, XML, or ETL scripts
- Scalar relationships: simple mappings, substrings, constants, concatenations
- Filters such as equality/inequality, null conditions, conjunctions
- Inner and outer joins
- Aggregations (minimum, maximum, average, sum)
- Reverse pivot rows
- Correlations to be stored in cross-reference tables
- Arithmetic relationships between columns
- Complex, nested case statements (if-then-else logic)
